Slotted NutsOpposing slots are cut into the end opposite the bearing surface through the centers of the flats. Slots are used for the insertion of a cotter pin or safety wire and through a drilled hole in the mating fastener. This creates a secure hold that prevents loosening or unscrewing. Also called a Castle Nut.
